A Brief History of AP Nutripharm

AP Nutripharm Pte Ltd (APN), formed in November, 2002 is a Singapore-based biotech and fermentation company. Together with the venture capitalists, Dr Mark Xu founded the company by acquiring the former Food Biotechnology Centre in Singapore’s PSB Corporation, which assets included a bio-reactor plant and laboratory facilities, and know-how for submerged cultivation technology of Cordyceps sinensis. Acquisition gives the APN a significant competitive edge in the field of biological healthcare or therapeutic products.

There was a revolutionary movement in the Western health care world around the early 1990s; the concepts of functional foods, health supplements and alternative medicines, started to grow and challenge the “conventional” school of medicine (or Western medicine). Although the popular adage “Prevention is better than cure” is now well-accepted, at that time there was much resistance to the notion. On the other hand, the saying is well-rooted in TCM.

When studying for his masters and PhD in Australia, Dr Mark Xu was inevitably involved in that trend of development. For example, part of his PhD work was on purification of bioactive proteins, ie, immunoglobulin or antibodies that were supposed to be used in conventional medicine, but his interest was more on the functional foods and health supplements. After returning to Asia, it was logical for his to look at TCM, particularly food products with medicinal properties such as cordyceps, lingzhi, red yeast, ginseng, etc. His interest now is to develop this health care area.

Our Business Activities

The business activities of AP Nutripharm Pte Ltd includes R&D, the manufacture and distribution of bulk medicinal fungal ingredients such as Cordyceps sinensis, Lingzhi etc, nutraceuticals, Chinesee proprietary medicine (CPM), health foods, health supplements, pharmaceutical ingredients, animal nutritional additives. APN is the ONLY manufacturer of Cordyceps sinensis material in the region.

Our Products

(I) Bulk ingredients of medicinal fungi manufactured from the following 10 species
Cordyceps sinensisCS-X100(冬虫夏草CS-X100) Strain CS-X100 is a proprietary strain of APN. Original strain has been modified by a-5 years-long natural breeding process to make CS-X100 featured in fast growing, highly yielding and highly containing of active compounds. Based a comprehensive study among marketed Cordyceps, CS-X100 strain shows highest contents in biomarkers.	Cordyceps sienensis CS-X100 spores (冬虫夏草CS-X100孢子): CS-X100 spore is only Cordyceps spore product in the world. Different from Lingzhi spore, Cordyceps spore, endogenously grown inside Cordyceps cells, which is unable to be extracted. Thus Cordyceps spore has not been available as a commercial product on the market until now when an APN patented technology can grow and extract Cordyceps sinensis spores from the proprietary strain CS-X100 of Cordyceps sinensis.
Cordyceps militaris (蛹虫草/北虫草) – CM4.	Cordyceps ophioglossoides (大团囊虫草) –COA. Isolated from the fruiting body of Elaphomyces granulatus (大团囊菌 ). It is a parasite of another fungus, Elaphomyces or parasitic upon various Tuberaceae/Truffles(松露). In traditional medicine in China and Japan, it is mainly used for women such as metrorrhagia (血崩和月经不调 ). Some scientific report based on in vitro and in vivo model suggested that  it has the ameliorating effects against Alzheimer’s disease.
